Pete Michaleto playing for the Gophers?? !!! I think not!!!!
Brett, I questioned that myself. Must have been a typo in the “always reliable” Times Star reporting… ten cents, worth more.
Marcia Tsang played for Godfrey and currently works for Alameda Parks and Recs.
Rose Tolentino played for Godfrey Park.
I played for Godfrey Park.
Awesome site. Miss the flag football Gopher days… we had some really good teams back in the day.
Good site…enjoying all the old memories…as for former players, both my brother, Monte, and I played at both Krusi and Godfrey growing up…Steve Ratto coached us forever…Erik Alterman is our cousin. (Monte is incorrectly listed as “Montie Kangas” on the Franklin roster).
I remember the Kangas brothers back then–ahh the RATTO’S, Owned a lot of farms on the island. Where are the old Godfrey Gophers at these days( bantam Champs)?
i played as a midget and police league i remember the 2
balls i hit out. i still have the bat even though dave mauldin broke it. what a blast though years were.
Here’s a few: Eric Cross, Greg Cockayne, Tim Illacqua, Greg Eager, Gary Eager, Bob Johnson, Ron Luckey, Tim Gannon, Mark Merrigan, Steve Littlejohn and Richard Sturman.
I was a gopher for a while back in the late 70′s and Steve Ratto was my coach too.
Looking for pictures or news clipings from when I played
I was a Godfrey Gopher and so was my brother, M.J. Mariani.
this is where it all began!!! T ball and being able to learn from the best. Joe Bonadona, Artie Hammond, Ronnie Ferris, Coach Ratto….man the list goes on! This is a great site. keep it going.
It’s been awhile but I thought of a few more , Gary and Craig Foutch , Bob Morillo , Terry Rains ….
and Donald Ratto
Look, I’m sure we could just put “* Ratto” at all the parks and that would just about cover it
…
I still have my godfrey gopher shirt. I went on to Manage both my sons now age 24 and 26 in little league. Women were rare in little league. I was also a plate umpire. I was so fortunate to be part of the Alameda Sandlot. Being 3rd generation Alameda those were the golden years of Bay Farm Island or for the real oldies. Alameda Del Mar.
I was a gopher from about 1962-67. Coaches were Jim tavernier and rich sherrat.
