ARPD Park Director and Player
George Peterson ran the full gambit of “park ratdom”, as a player, park director and perennial island tennis tournament champion.
As a lad, George played for Franklin Park’s baseball entries and was one the Alameda All-Stars selected to play against their counterpart San Francisco All-Stars in the annual baseball showdown at Seals Stadium. After his baseball career ended, the ever vigorous Peterson went on to work for the ARPD as a Park Director. Following college, Peterson’s park days didn’t end, he continues to be a fixture on park tennis courts and boasts a number of trophies as the Alameda City Tennis Champion. George may be the oldest still-practicing park rat in the history of the garden isle.
